Julidochromis are beautiful aquarium fish. They are cichlids from Lake Tanganyika in Africa and are the favorite Tanganyikan cichlid of many aquarists. These fish are a pleasure to keep and have a personality to match their striking color. There are 5 species of Julidochromis which vary in size from 3 to 5 inches. All Julidochromis are torpedo shaped, black and yellow fish and many have blue accents on the fins and gills. While they all are similar, each species has its own unique pattern and slightly different body type.
A species' color varies depending on its collection point in the lake. This Julidochromis Regani from Kipili is an aquarium fish that is sure to impress. The same species from collection point Chimba is not nearly as striking. While the color may vary depending on collection point, the size, shape and patter of the fish will usually stay the same. Lake Tanganyika has over 1000 miles of shoreline. This allows for many different collection points and possible color variations.
