Julidochromis transcriptus, the smallest of the Julidochromis species, only grows to 3″ in length. One pair of this aquarium fish can easily be kept in a 20 gallon aquarium. It would do well with shell dwellers or other small Tanganyikan Cichlids. It is easy to keep and can be a beautiful addition to a cichlid tank. The Gombi variety of this species has only verticle black and white / tan stripes. Other collection points have more of a blotchy pattern.
